Some People Relapse into Addiction while Others Manage to Check their Cravings

In 10 seconds? Engrained drug-seeking behavior in response to triggers in their environment increases the risk of former cocaine users relapsing into the habit - even after withdrawal symptoms have passed -  a 2021 study into drug-seeking behavior found.

Why is it important? The research suggests an answer to the question why people who seemingly have successfully kicked the habit can return to it and may offer strategies to protect vulnerable individuals. It also hint at that simply forcing withdrawal and physical abstinence from a drug is not a complete solution.
