Why did the pandemic cut live births in European countries?
In 10 seconds? A recent study found that 9 months after the first COVID-19 epidemic peak (back in March 2020), birthrates have dropped in many European countries. What caused this and what are the consequences?
What’s the story? At the beginning of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted the world governments to adopt restrictive measures in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus. By March 2020 almost the whole world went into a long quarantine, and these restrictions (contrary to what was thought at the time) negatively influenced sexual activity. The obvious consequence 9 months later? A decline in the number of live births.
