While we need a little TLC, tumors need a little TLS
In 10 seconds? How can we improve patients’ response to cancer immunotherapies? Researchers are studying cell clusters called tertiary lymphoid structures to achieve a breakthrough.
Tertiary lymphoid what? That sounds so complex! Fear not! You just need a brief lesson in immunology. Human immune systems are composed of a variety of cells and organs. Primary lymphoid organs, like the thymus and bone marrow, are where immune cells develop. Secondary lymphoid organs, like the spleen, tonsils, and lymph nodes, are where immune cells congregate and await instructions on how to attack threats to our health. Secondary lymphoid organs work as "basecamps" for immune cells working in specific areas of the body.
