What is polycystic ovary syndrome and how does it affect fertility?
In 10 seconds? Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal disorders affecting women during the reproductive years. It is associated with metabolic and cardiovascular manifestations and could cause infertility.
This is new for me… what happens when you have PCOS? I will try to explain it in a simple way... PCOS affects women of all ages because it is a hormonal problem, mainly, due to their bodies having too much of the hormone called androgen. This is why women with PCOS can have irregular ovulation and menstrual periods, and why their ovaries can develop cysts (they are like bags full of fluid), and they may develop metabolic disorders, like obesity or diabetes. This disorder affects 5-10% of women of reproductive age and is complex and difficult to diagnose.
