Take note, tumors – a new method adds superpowers to cancer-fighting immune cells!

In 10 seconds? Scientists have developed a relatively simple technique that has the potential to make cell-based cancer treatments more effective against solid tumors.

What do you mean by “cell-based” cancer treatments? Great question! Cell-based cancer therapies are cancer treatments that use live human immune cells to attack tumors (instead of toxic chemicals/chemotherapy, or high-energy beams/radiotherapy). To date, some of the most successful cell-based cancer treatments are CAR-T therapy or TIL therapy (Check out the links for digests on these topics!) In these therapies, blood samples from cancer patients are used to collect specific immune cells, called T cells, which are then modified in a laboratory to boost their cancer-killing potential.
