Premature births increase the risk of ADHD in children
In 10 seconds? Researchers have found more evidence that children born a few weeks before term are more likely to develop ADHD (attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder).
What’s the story? It’s normal for children to have trouble focusing and behaving at any time. However, children with ADHD could have difficulty at school, at home, or with friends since this behavior is frequent. The link between the condition and preterm birth (i.e. not the ‘normal’ 40-41 weeks but before 37 weeks into the pregnancy) is not new and has been investigated before. The current study is new in terms of including reports on 9-year-old children's behavior by teachers.
