Love flows… but sperm’s own enzymes can be mobilized to avoid pregnancy

In 10 seconds? Did you know that semen contains enzymes that can prevent sperm from moving quickly? A new finding shows that tinkering with these enzymes could contribute to infertility, and that could be used to create a new contraceptive.

Wow, how can that happen? The function of the sperm is to contribute to reproduction by fertilizing the egg. For this, it has to travel about 1000 times its own length in the female reproductive tract. And during this energy-consuming journey, it needs “support” which it gets from semen (no, not the same as sperm), in the form of nutrients and protection. But semen can be turned into sperm's "enemy" and thwart its mission.
