How disarming THOR may help treat several forms of cancer?
In 10 seconds? Scientists have found that switching off the THOR gene – found in our ‘junk DNA’ - can prevent tumor growth in the skin and lungs and secondary ovarian cancer tumors.
I thought that all DNA was important, what is this junk thing? Our genome holds our individual ‘blueprints’. But the majority of the DNA in the genome is not easily identifiable as crucial for our cells to work properly. These parts are often called ‘junk DNA’ because they lack seemingly useful genetic code. It turns out that some of this ‘junk DNA’ contains the THOR gene, which can knock back certain cancers when switched off.
