How chewing gum could help slow the spread of COVID-19?

In 10 seconds? Researchers have found a new way to reduce the transmission of the novel coronavirus, by developing a chewing gum that aims to render its main weapon useless.

What have they done? These chewing gums were made from plant sources that have the neutralizing molecule known as cholera toxin B (CTB). CTB gum blocks the entry of the SARS-CoV-2 virus into cells by acting on the ACE2 receptors in the oral cavity. Interestingly, the CTB containing chewing gum inhibited the entry of the virus by 85% compared to the untreated control group.
