Ooops, grasslands can be carbon emitters too

In 10 seconds? A 2021 paper debunks a commonly held misconception: that grasslands always act as ‘carbon sinks’, capturing CO2. It turns out they can emit greenhouse gases – depending on what they are used for.

Even grasslands can be CO2 emitters? How? The researchers have produced further evidence that grasslands can be net emitters if their main function is to feed grazing livestock, whereas ‘natural’ grasslands were found to be net absorbers of greenhouse gases.
