CO2 Could Put More Food on the Table
In 10 seconds? Much maligned CO2 can also be a force for good. Researchers have created a molecular process involving this greenhouse gas to produce extra food helping to meet our growing global population's needs.
What’s the story? Scientists have found a way to make crops grow bigger by redirecting CO2 that would normally be lost in a cell's metabolic process. As a result, rice, for example, grows much better under bright light, which is welcome news to US growers as rice is the third largest cereal crop in the country.
