‘Brain zapper’ used for depression lifts fatigue in MS patients

In 10 seconds? Researchers have found that a treatment for depression can significantly reduce tiredness in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Fatigue impacts over  80% of people with the illness, severely affecting their quality of life.

What’s the discovery? Researchers have reduced fatigue in MS patients with a magnetic treatment for depression that sends electric currents deep into the brain to stimulate neuron activity. The team has found that they’ve managed to significantly reduce fatigue scores, as measured by the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), a tool originally designed to quantify and assess fatigue in MS patients and later used to assess people with conditions like arthritis, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and fibromyalgia.
