A Pot of Bother: Can Cannabis Use Disturb Sleep?
In 10 seconds? Sleep and mental health are interlinked and heavy use of cannabis may disturb ideal sleeping patterns, according to recent studies. However, the difference between it helping to fall asleep versus disrupting sleep may depend on a broad range of factors.
So, what does the research say? In one study, researchers used data from more than 21,000 US residents about their cannabis-taking habits and their sleep patterns. They've found that using the drug either made people sleep for a shorter period (less than 6) or longer than ideal (over 9 hours). They’ve also found that heavy users (people who took cannabis over 20 times in the past 30 days) had their sleeping time deviate from the ideal even more.
